Canada Day Long Weekend!

Happy Canada Day!!

Whether your chillin' on the dock at the cottage or headed to a Canada Day bash, I hope you enjoy yourself and let your hair down!

Canada Day in Ottawa is quite the show! If you ever have the opportunity to spend a Canada Day in the Nation's Capital, I recommend that you hit the downtown party to experience the Canada LOVE!

Canada Day is an extra special day for Mr. Fix-it and I. We were married on July 1st and celebrating our 7th anniversary this year :) We were married on a beautiful sunny and breezy afternoon with a great party to follow...it really was a wicked party!

To add to the long weekend fun, my brother is visiting from Paris :) Check out the beautiful Murano glass bowl from the city of love that he and his girlfriend gave us. So sweet. J'aime.

The boutique this bowl is from is called Merci. Its located in a majestic sun-filled loft where you can browse from room to room like a real house. Its amazing. Just by chance if you happen to be heading to Paris...you must check it out.
MERCI, 111 Boulevard Beaumarchais - 3rd
Open daily Monday to Saturday 10am-8pm
Metro Saint Sébastien Froissard

The owner has exquisite taste...who doesn't in Paris?

We'll be celebrating Canada's birthday with a backyard bash at our house! The weather looks to be beauty so the fridge is stocked with burgers and beer and the fireworks are ready.

If you are entertaining this weekend there are lots of ways to decorate your table that are super easy and look great. What about layering red and white jelly beans in a vase with a few small Canada flags hanging out? Or there is always the popular Canada Day cake that is yummy and cute.

Go to Kraft Canada for the recipe.

What about laying down a red table cloth or placements...your white plates will all of a sudden look festive! You can also wrap up your cutlery in red napkins (adding the little flag is a cute touch too). Its functional for your guests and looks great.

This is one of my fav summer recipes...who knew strawberry bruschetta would be so delish!

Strawberry Bruschetta
Yield: about 4-6 servings

Ingredients
1 cup strawberries, hulled and diced
1 tbsp. sugar
1 French baguette, sliced on a bias
4 oz. goat cheese
1 tbsp. olive oil
2 tsp. balsamic vinegar
¼ cup minced basil leaves
Freshly ground black pepper

Combine the strawberries and sugar in a small bowl; toss to combine. Let the berries macerate for about 30 minutes so that they begin to release their juices. Spread a thin layer of goat cheese on top of each baguette slice. Top each slice with spoonfuls of the strawberry mixture. Drizzle lightly with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Top each slice with the basil leaves and cracked pepper, to taste

Get that creative mind thinking of how red and white can make your Canada Day fresh.fabulous.sophisticated.

I'm off to get our backyard "Canada Day ready"! Enjoy your long weekend and we'll see you in July!

Keep it Beautiful.
