Fabulous Friday! My favourite things + giveaways!

Hi guys!

Long time no chat. It's been a super busy week here both in the office and at home. I always find the week before and after a long weekend are always bananas. The first week is getting ready for the long weekend and the second is recovering from it. Hope you all had a nice Easter or Passover. We were here in the city for a bit and at the cottage. The egg hunt was a big success and of course our big guy 100% claims that he saw the bunny! He went to sleep on his top bunk, staring out the window into the cottage dark, with binoculars and a flashlight ready for the big moment. I wish I could package the cuteness and keep them believing forever.

After all the chocolate, food & vino last weekend I felt the need to detox. I tried something new this week. Instead of just writing down our dinners for the week, I also made Mr. Fix-It and my lunches for the week and cut up all the veggies and meat for our dinners.

The goal was to not buy our lunch all week and eat well during the day. The goal of cutting up all the veggies and any meat was to have the ingredients ready to go as soon as we got home. All in all, I would say it was pretty successful. It took a couple of hours in the kitchen on Monday afternoon but it was well worth it during the week. Try it out. My bod definitely feels like its indulged in it's fair share of veggie and fruit love, our dinner prep was less chaotic and our wallets were happy. Fingers crossed, the prep happens again this weekend for next week!

Here are a few of my favourite things this week that I think you may like too...

This house...how gorgeous is that garden?

Oh! Wednesday night my friend Marilou of the fab blog Twenty York Street invited me to  attend a fab media event. Canadian Club has released their Chairman's Select 100% Rye that's only available in Canada. The event was at one of my favourite restaurants Social in the Ottawa Byward Market. We learned and tasted a whole lotta Whisky.

Good thing I took a cab there and home :) Mr. Fix-It is a Scotch-Whisky fanatic so he may have wanted to fall on the ground and throw a tantrum on the floor when I told him it was a solo mission for me. Poor guy. Ah well, I brought him home a signed copy of the book Canadian Whisky, lots of cool new facts about whisky and a sipping glass. Good thing we were also fed a lot because I felt a whole lotta happy on my way home. Also, I learned from a Whisky mixologist how to make a Dry Rye Manhatten.

So fun! Who knew that a beer and wine loving girl would love this drink so much. It will definitely be on my drink-of-choice menu this weekend!

Here's how...
  • 2 oz Canadian Club® Chairman's Select 100% Rye
  • 1 oz dry vermouth
  • 1 dash Angostura® bitters
  • 1 dash simple syrup
  • lemon peel

  • Zest lemon peel over rim of glass.
Serve straight or on the rocks.

Tip: Only use ice cubes that are less than 24 hours old. After that they start to take on smells and yuckness in the freezer.
Tip: South Koreans have the 2-2-2 rule. 2 oz Rye-2 ice cubes-let it sit for 2 mins. Enjoy :)

Oh and if you want to know everything and anything about Canadian whisky, head over to my Instagram today to win a copy of the book! Woot!

Pool noodles and popsicle sticks. Isn't this garland adorable?

Need a great gift for kids' birthday parties? Check out Doodle Post.

It's a mail order craft subscription for kids ages 5-10. Once a month, the little box addressed to the child, arrives in the mail. In the box are instructions and the materials needed to make two crafts. This is the craft that my big guy made. A cute product for kids that love crafts and getting mail.

A few things happening in Ottawa this weekend:
National Women's Show - A great place to head with your girlfriends at the Shaw Centre (aka Convention Centre) from April 11-12th.
KidsFest - Your kids will love it! Peppa Pig and Splash 'n Boots will be there.

GIVEAWAY ALERT!! Want to win tix to either of these events? First person to respond in the comments why they want to go to which event and why, wins! Also for the National Women's Show, I have a discount code. Enter in "beautiful" when purchasing tix online.

Oh by the way, thanks so much for your ideas and input on the basement built-ins. We've decided to go with cupboards all the way across the bottom. Now if I could just find the time to get down there and clean out all the junk!

    TGIF!
    Keep it Beautiful.
